When real estate developer Farukh Aslam last spoke with Connected Real Estate Magazine, the remodeling of the first and second floors of a Fort Worth, TX CVS were underway. What was most notable about these renovations was this would be the first CVS in the United States to transition to Power over Ethernet (POE) low voltage lighting and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air conditioning.
Today, that venture is a reality. That Fort Worth CVS is officially the first in the U.S. to use a low voltage lighting systems powered by POE technology. The 14,000 square feet, two-story CVS has 240 lights running on this POE technology. According to Aslam, the store has an excellent power monitoring system in place that uses a voltserver and has the internet protocols on its switches. The store adopted the 2015 energy code of City of Fort Worth that requires retail lighting should be no more than 0.8 watts per square foot, and the store is running on less than half of what the energy code requires, at about 0.38 watts per square foot.
